Pop Art

By Kailyn Brown

Have you ever heard of the Pop Art Movement? Pop art is an art movement that originated from British and American culture in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Pop artists used common or everyday objects as subject matter and often incorporated them into their artworks. These objects can include comic strips, make-up, food products, and road signs. Pop art got its name from its reference to popular appeal and involvement in popular culture.

Despite the uniqueness of this movement, pop art was constantly ridiculed and made fun of. A majority of critics described pop art as non-authentic, vulgar, sensational, and a joke. A small minority in the art world saw it as a nondiscriminatory and, demicratic art form. Pop art eventually got accepted towards the end of the 1990s. Pop art is now one of the most recognized art movements in history.

I drew a pop art piece with four different colored lipsticks. I used black markers to outline and add details to the lipsticks. I also used a golden pen and golden sharpie to give a more realistic look to them.
