With the recent release of what’s now one of my favorite movies I decided to review the first one, IT (2017). IT is the coming of age story set in the summer of 1989 about seven outcasts, who find out that their small town Derry, Maine is home to the eater of worlds and children, Pennywise, who is able to take the form as anything the children fear. The kids must come together and overcome all their personal fears in order to kill Pennywise before it kills them and all the kids in their small town. I saw this movie three months after it came out and it lives up to the hype. My favorite moment in the movie is the first appearance of Pennywise. This scene was perfect from the setting to the overall atmosphere. What really brings this scene together is Bill Skarsgard’s performance as Pennywise. Skarsgard brings a creepy and overall terrifying atmosphere that sets the tone for the rest of the movie. My main issue was that a lot of the main characters were pushed to the sidelines and forgotten. I recommend watching this amazing movie before seeing the sequel, IT Chapter 2. IT is one of the best horror movies/coming to age stories of all time.
