The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s first two episodes of the series have aired on Disney+. The first episode started with introducing us to the characters, Sam Wilson (Falcon) and James “Bucky” Barnes (Winter Soldier). Sam is played by actor Anthony Mackie and Bucky is played by Sebastian Stan. Their performances so far, in the series, are phenomenal. We are first introduced to Bucky in Captain America: The First Avenger, as Steve Rogers’s childhood best friend. We are introduced to the Winter Soldier in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, they are both Bucky but with a different mind that is being controlled by HYDRA. He is an assassin whose mission, is to kill Steve. Sam is introduced in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, we first see him in the opening credits as a runner who was a retired “pilot” that works at the VA. We see Sam and Bucky’s friendship grow in Captain

America: Civil War. They seem like enemies, but they’re just good friends.

The story takes place six months after everyone came back from the blip. In the first episode, we don’t see Sam and Bucky together a lot. We get introduced to some characters that look like they will be playing a tremendous role in further episodes. One person we see in the first episode is Sam’s sister, Sarah, and her kids. She has two boys, that look to be about ten to six years old. There are also some powerful scenes about racism in the first two episodes. In the first episode, there is a scene in a bank when Sam and Sarah are trying to get a loan and the conversation between the broker and Sam is about how he didn’t get paid when he worked for the Avengers. The scene is very powerful because it is about systematic racism. Sam may be saving peoples’ lives, but he is still a Black man in America that has to, sadly, experience racism. This is also portrayed in the second episode when Sam and Bucky are arguing in the streets, in what looks to be a predominantly African American neighborhood, and the police come and ask if Sam is bothering Bucky.

The first episode played a great part in introducing us to how everyone is adjusting to coming back after being gone for five years. Sam is trying to help his family, work in the airforce, and adjust to his long-time best friend giving him his shield. Bucky is adjusting to getting his brain back, after years of being controlled by HYDRA. The second episode shows more of what is their new mission, now that there working together again.

Overall there are no words I can put for how good so far the show is. I can’t wait for new episodes to come out and see what the future of the MCU will look like. The show is full of action and is hilarious. The two-character, Bucky and Sam, truly are an iconic comedic duo. No wonder why the show is so successful, for only having two episodes out.
